1. Scope and who this policy covers
This Privacy Policy explains how the WAExport Chrome Extension (the "Extension", "WAExport", "we", or "us") handles user data. It applies to the Extension, including its Chat Export, Contact Export, Group Export, activation, quota, support, feedback, and product-measurement features.
This policy does not govern WhatsApp, Chrome, Stripe, or other third-party websites and services that you may use. Those services operate under their own privacy policies. WAExport is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by WhatsApp Inc. or Meta Platforms, Inc.
2. WhatsApp data the Extension accesses locally
When you open and use an export feature on WhatsApp Web, the Extension accesses the data required to perform the export you selected. This processing takes place in your browser and on your device.
- Account data: your currently signed-in WhatsApp account identifier and phone number, used to show account status, maintain account-specific quotas, and bind locally stored activation status to that account.
- Chat export data: selected chat metadata, message text, timestamps, sender and recipient identifiers, and, only when you choose media export, related media made available by WhatsApp Web.
- Contact and group export data: contact and group-member identifiers, phone numbers, names, labels, group names, business/contact status, and export filters needed to create your selected file.
- The Extension does not access browsing activity on websites other than the WhatsApp Web and WAExport/WADesk domains covered by its declared host permissions.
3. Data stored on your device
The Extension uses Chrome local storage and popup local storage to make the product work. This information remains in your browser unless you clear it or remove the Extension.
- Your WhatsApp account number and account identifier; account connection status; installation time; a locally stored UUID; and account-specific daily quota records.
- Activation code, plan, purchase date, and expiry information, stored locally to validate your activation and plan access.
- Product preferences, including selected export format, selected group or label/filter identifiers, selected tabs, onboarding state, export settings, and interface preferences.
- A short-lived local queue of product telemetry waiting to be sent. Exported Excel, CSV, VCF, HTML, JSON, text, and media files are created in the location you select on your device; WAExport does not keep a copy of those files.
4. Data sent to WAExport and when it is sent
The Extension sends limited product telemetry when you install, open or use an export function, activate a plan, encounter an error, reach a quota, use support or feedback links, or uninstall. This helps us operate the Extension, diagnose failures, prevent abuse, understand feature use, and improve reliability.
For these purposes, telemetry may include your current WhatsApp account number/account identifier, locally generated UUID, extension and installation version, installation timestamp, browser language, country inferred from the account phone number, event time, feature or export module used, export format, selected filter counts, aggregate export counts, plan or quota state, and non-content error or result codes.
When you choose a purchase, support, tutorial, feedback, or uninstall flow, the Extension may open a WAExport/WADesk page with your WhatsApp account number, extension version, language, installation timestamp, and campaign or entry information in the URL. We use this information to bind an activation code to the account, provide support, attribute feedback, and maintain the service.
- We do not transmit chat-message text, message attachments or media, exported files, contact lists, group-member lists, group names, contact names, or third-party phone numbers to WAExport telemetry services.
- We do not use your WhatsApp data for advertising, creditworthiness, lending, insurance, employment, or any other eligibility decision.
5. How we use data
We use locally accessed WhatsApp data only to create the export you request and to apply the selected export settings. We use account and activation data to show the correct account state, enforce quotas, validate activation locally, and provide the plan you purchased or claimed.
We use telemetry and related service data to maintain the Extension, measure feature usage, investigate errors and security incidents, prevent fraud or abuse, improve performance and usability, respond to support requests, and comply with applicable law.
6. Sharing and service providers
We do not sell or rent your user data. We do not share the WhatsApp content that the Extension processes locally with advertisers or data brokers.
We share only the limited data described in Section 4 with service providers that help us operate the service. These include WAExport/WADesk-hosted services for notices, pricing, activation-related journeys, support, and feedback, and Alibaba Cloud Log Service for product telemetry and operational logging. Service providers may process data only to provide services to us and subject to applicable contractual and legal safeguards.
We may also disclose data where required by law, to protect the security and rights of WAExport, users, or the public, or as part of a corporate transaction, subject to applicable law.
7. Retention and deletion
Locally stored Extension data remains on your device until you clear the relevant browser or Extension storage, reset the Extension's settings where available, or uninstall the Extension. Exported files remain under your control in the location where you saved them.
We retain server-side telemetry and support or feedback information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including service operation, security, dispute handling, and legal compliance, and then delete or de-identify it when no longer needed.
8. Chrome permissions and their purpose
The Extension requests only the following permissions declared in its Chrome Web Store package.
- tabs: to identify the active WhatsApp Web tab, communicate with it to perform the export you request, open WhatsApp Web when needed, and open WAExport support, pricing, guide, or feedback pages you select.
- storage: to store the local settings, account state, activation state, quota records, and queued telemetry described in Section 3.
- Host permission for *.whatsapp.com: to run on WhatsApp Web and locally access the data required for the selected export feature.
- Host permission for *.wadesk.io: to communicate with WAExport/WADesk services used for notices, service flows, and the limited telemetry described in Section 4.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect data handled by the Extension. Export content is processed in your browser and saved directly to your device. Network communications to WAExport services use HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Your choices and rights
You can stop using the Extension at any time, delete exported files from your device, clear Chrome extension data, reset available settings, or uninstall the Extension. You may contact us to request access, correction, deletion, or information about personal data we hold, subject to applicable law and identity verification.
11. Third-party data and children
The Extension may process information about other people that appears in your WhatsApp chats, contacts, or groups solely because you choose to export it. You are responsible for ensuring that you have a lawful basis and any required permissions to export, use, or share that information.
The Extension is not directed to children under the age required by applicable law to consent to data processing. Do not use the Extension if you are not permitted to do so.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our data practices, Extension functionality, or legal obligations change. We will post the updated policy here and revise the "Last updated" date. Material changes will take effect when posted unless a different notice is required by law.
